Single-Skin Metal Panel Building Envelope Solutions

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

As part of a well-designed rainscreen system, single-skin metal panels offer unique aesthetic options combined with the assurance that the building envelope will withstand the effects of long-term exposure to the elements. This course compares common cladding types; presents single-skin metal panel materials, coatings, finishes, and design options; and examines using single-skin metal panels with a single-component barrier wall to form a complete rainscreen assembly.

This course is one of two identical courses titled Single-Skin Metal Panel Building Envelope Solutions. You will receive credit for taking only one of these courses.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Differentiate between single-skin metal wall panels, insulated metal panels (IMPs), and metal composite material (MCM) panels across a variety of parameters including suitable applications, appearance, installation, sustainability, and their contribution to weathertight design.
  • Specify single-skin metal wall panel materials, finishes, and system types appropriate for the intended application and environment to ensure long-term durability and performance.
  • Discuss the performance, economic, environmental, installation, and aesthetic advantages of using a single-skin metal panel, single-component barrier wall rainscreen assembly.
  • Summarize the AAMA rainscreen design requirements and testing methods.
