Optimizing Energy Efficiency in Data Centers Utilizing Containment Strategies

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

In response to steadily growing demands for more and more storage capacity and the costs and energy required to implement that storage, data center design is now focusing on solutions that conserve energy, materials, money, and space. This course explores the current influences that directly or indirectly affect energy usage and management, the resulting trends in data center development, and how containment strategies enable designers to optimize energy efficiency and create facilities with minimal environmental footprints.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Identify ways to reduce the cooling, power, and space needs in existing data centers in order to conserve energy, reduce costs, and minimize carbon footprints.
  • Guide new data center design teams to solutions with energy and layout efficiencies that simultaneously meet modern business demands and environmental targets and provide improved working conditions.
  • Understand the future needs of data centers sufficiently to implement flexible designs that will accommodate improved technologies over time with minimal disruption and cost.
  • Create safe, secure, and reliable data storage centers that will function and support critical institutions such as hospitals under any and all circumstances.
