The Benefits of Glass-Reinforced, Graphite-Infused Composite Cladding

Exterior cladding must be long lasting, maintenance-free, and aesthetically pleasing to meet the design demands of property and homeowners. An innovative composite cladding solution, developed with a patented technology that incorporates glass-reinforced polymers and graphite-infused polystyrene, meets and exceeds these requirements. This course describes the design challenges property and homeowners often face when selecting cladding, and it offers a solution. Performance characteristics such as thermal resistance, wind load resistance, and fire ratings are discussed. Installation techniques and a case study are also examined.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

Explain the challenges faced by property owners in selecting a strong, durable, and maintenance-free exterior cladding and describe the quick and simple installation methods that increase productivity and decrease costs.
Describe how glass-reinforced composite cladding can meet ASTM standards for fire and wind resistance, improving occupant safety.
Recall the thermal resistance values provided by composite cladding that increase occupant comfort and energy efficiency.
Discuss building codes and standards applicable to cladding installation.

Background:

Farrell Farmer is the Director of U.S. Architectural Sales and Business Development at Associated Materials – Alside & Gentek, ffarmer@associatedmaterials.com, responsible for leading a team of Business Development Managers, introducing the company’s integrated building products to architects, developers, builders, and remodelers. Farrell’s primary focus is on exterior cladding and vinyl windows for new construction and remodeling applications, and he assists the architectural community with the creation and conversion of product specifications. In his previous role with Associated Materials, Farrell specialized in sales leadership and business development of the company’s Alside & Gentek brands of products. Farrell has over 25 years of experience in the exterior building products industry.

Mark Neach is the Business Development Manager for the Southern region (FL, GA, TN, AL, MS, TX, MO, AK, NM, OK, LA) at Associated Materials – Alside & Gentek, mneach@associatedmaterials.com, responsible for educating architects, developers, general contractors, remodelers, and installers. Mark has been in the building materials industry for 35 years, with 20 at the executive level. Mark holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Law degrees.

Sam Savides is the Senior Business Development Manager for the North Central region (IL, IN, IA, OH, MI, MN, NE, ND, SD, WI) at Associated Materials – Alside & Gentek, ssavides@associatedmaterials.com, responsible for educating architects, developers, builders, and remodelers through the creation and conversion of product specifications. Focusing on new construction and remodeling applications, Sam has educated architects throughout his more than 30 years in building material business development for several well-known manufacturers. Sam graduated from Elmhurst University and is a registered American Institute of Architects presenter.

James Scarangella is the Business Development Manager for the Northeast region (DE, PA, NJ, NY, CT, MA, VT, NH, ME, RI) at Associated Materials – Alside & Gentek, jscarangella@associatedmaterials.com, responsible for introducing the company’s exterior building materials to architects, builders, developers, general contractors, and remodelers. James has managed teams and focused on business development for several large manufacturers for 30 years, and has extensive experience educating the architectural community. James is a graduate of Fordham University and holds a M.A. in Economics and is a licensed educator.

Mike graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was a certified classroom instructor.
