Traditionally, monolithic concrete forms are made of lumber. After the concrete has been poured, the lumber forms must be stripped from the concrete. The footer and the slab must then be insulated for frost protection. This course details how a frost-protected shallow foundation (FPSF) is constructed and introduces a new, innovative, stay-in-place EPS (expanded polystyrene) footing form that provides insulation and simplifies the installation of frost-protected monolithic concrete slab foundations.

Background: Lance Boyce is the innovator behind Mono Slab EZ Form. Lance has been in the construction industry 23 years spending his career in construction, working side by side with his wife Amber and his 2 children Nalder and Ainsley Boyce. Lance grew up involved in a family sod farm. Lance spent hours moving water pipe, running machinery, delivering sod and installing sprinkler systems. This sparked Lance’s entrepreneurship sprit. In 1995, Lance began his construction dream and passion in residential construction. With Lance’s strong background in landscaping and decorative concrete it provided a perfect turnkey custom home for his homeowners. Over the years Lance’s skills have developed from landscaping and sprinkler install to all types of carpentry, masonry work, concrete forming and finishing. The downturn in construction in 2008 resulted in loss of labor. Labor fled to the oil fields in search of big money. With lack of labor, Lance filled the void on his construction projects. Lance and his family stepped up and took on more labor of the projects. Lance developed Mono Slab EZ Form out of a much-needed change in traditional forming and insulating methods. Lance saw the flaws in the traditional process of forming and insulating monolithic slab on grade constructions. Lance has had firsthand experience with frost damage along with issues associated with poor insulation practices. Lance developed Mono Slab EZ Form to simplify forming and insulating along with saving time, labor, and money. Lance set out to provide a far superior product and process compared to traditional methods.
