This LEED® Specific course provides an overview of the economics of LEED® green building design and includes discussions on economic, environmental and social impacts; market conditions, legislative pressures and consumer demand; and, tools and strategies to assess costs and benefits, ROI and simple payback.

Background: Kelly Gearhart, LEED AP BD+C and O+M is a founder and Principal with the international green building consulting firm Triple Green Building Group (Triple Green). With locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, Atlanta, GA, Savannah, GA and Sophia, Bulgaria, Triple Green provides expertise to design, construction and building operations professionals, governments, corporate entities and non-profit organizations seeking responsible approaches to building and development through sustainable project planning and design, LEED consulting and administration, education and training. Triple Green is a national member of the U.S. Green Building Council, a sustainability education developer, and one of the only International USGBC Authorized Delivery Partners for LEED core curriculum. Gearhart is USGBC LEED Faculty member, Instructor for the University of California and reviewer for GBCI education in the Pacific Region.
Accredited in the new Building Design + Construction and Existing Buildings: Operations + Maintenance programs, Kelly has taught over 75 full-day and multi-day LEED courses, facilitated seven full-day and multi-day green building charrettes, presented at 12 conferences, consulted with more than 100 clients on green building strategies and worked on over 30 LEED registered and certified projects across the U.S. and internationally. Gearhart served as an officer on the board of the USGBC Atlanta Chapter for two years as well as serving as a member of USGBC’s Southeast Regional Council. Currently, Gearhart is managing LEED projects, teaching courses at Berkeley, delivering LEED workshops around the U.S. and working to implement carbon reduction strategies in cities and municipalities throughout California as the Co-Chair of USGBC Northern California Chapter’s Climate Change Task Force.
