In harvesting cork, the tree is not cut down and not damaged, making cork a rapidly renewable resource. Along with the use of recycled content and low VOC adhesives the use of cork flooring has low environmental and human health impacts. This course looks at the sustainability of natural cork flooring, both glue-down tiles and floating floor options, including discussions on performance characteristics, aesthetics and installation procedures.

Background: As a native New Yorker, Ken has had great opportunities to understand various architectural styles and designs, both old and new world. He started this education by working in the construction field mastering numerous trades. After decades of learning, Ken started a “one stop” retail tile and marble business in Manhattan. With such projects as the Guggenheim Museum, Lincoln Center, celebrity homes, restaurants, night clubs, Ken honed his skills for the flooring market. Always looking for new innovative materials, Ken started his journey in 1995 with cork by going to the forests in Portugal as well as European cork factories. Charged by what he discovered, he threw himself into the World of Cork and soon became known as the “Walt Disney” of Cork. Utilizing all aspects of his learning and energy, he single-handedly brought new and exciting concepts to cork flooring and has been leading the way ever since.
As of today, he is the only manufacturer of glue down cork parquet tiles in USA which is an accomplishment he is proud of. The aim is “to educate everyone about the benefits and beauty of cork flooring.”
