Students in the Renewable Energy and Ecological Design (REED) program at Vermont’s Green Mountain College have designed a jewel of a home for the 22 year old in us all who, according to one of its designers, don’t want to be “stuck to a piece of land”. The OTIS (Optimal Traveling Independent Space) is an aerodynamic, pod-shaped design, made to be towed on a standard 5 by 8 foot trailer. It has kitchen and bathroom facilities that use its own rainwater collection system and a 120-watt solar panel system for electricity. To handle human waste, the OTIS uses a composting toilet. Taking the tiny house movement one step further OTIS lets you live small anywhere you want.
