UL Environment Validation and Certification Helps Manufacturers Achieve NAHB Research Center 'Green Approved' Product Seal

August 25, 2009

NORTHBROOK, Ill., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- UL Environment today announced that its validations and certifications will help manufacturers achieve the NAHB Research Center "Green Approved" product seal. This recognition qualifies a product to be used by builders to earn points toward National Green Building Certification under the ICC-700 National Green Building Standard(TM). "At UL Environment, we are committed to reducing confusion and clutter within the eco-labeling space," said Steve Wenc, President, UL Environment. "That is why we are thrilled to be working alongside an important organization such as the NAHB Research Center as we aim to foster trust and transparency within the industry." The NAHB Research Center has developed the "Green Approved" program to help builders and designers identify green building products and materials that contribute points toward certification of a building under the National Green Building Standard(TM). This program is available to manufacturers who provide third-party evidence that their products meet specific criteria required by various sections of the Standard. "UL has been testing and certifying products for over a century," said Bob Hill, NAHB Research Center Director of Laboratory and Certification Services. "That's why, when it came time to identify trusted, credible organizations that certify the green attributes of building products, it was a no-brainer to have UL Environment on the short list." UL Environment, launched in January 2009, recently announced the validation of its first building material--Serious Materials' EcoRock. UL Environment is also an official certification body for the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) level(TM) program. In the coming months, UL Environment will be announcing additional product environmental claim validations and certifications to industry standards, as well as an expansion of its current service offerings.
