July 14, 2008

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oncor’s Take A Load Off, TexasSM program, a year-long, 10-city tour designed to educate consumers about energy efficiency, is now reaching out to children with its conservation message. The Take A Load Off, Texas Kids portion of the program teaches four- to seven-year-old children the fundamentals of energy efficiency and helps them become Super Energy Savers. In a special kid-size area near Take A Load Off, Texas exhibits for adults, youngsters learn simple lessons about caulking, weather-stripping and insulating a home. Afterward, each child receives a construction hat and takes a toolkit into a playhouse to “tighten up.” Every child who participates has a chance to win the playhouse. They also receive gifts and a coloring book about how to save energy. “Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas program encourages families to learn about energy efficiency together,” said Mike Stockard, Oncor director of energy efficiency. “Since January, Oncor has touched more than 3,000 people through events and tour stops. Our energy efficiency awareness campaign is teaching consumers about Oncor programs and helping them take advantage of opportunities to conserve energy.” Take A Load Off, Texas uses hands-on, interactive exhibits on key elements of energy efficiency to raise awareness and encourage Oncor service area residents to sign-up for free energy efficiency assessments by Oncor’s participating service providers. Providers offer tips and information on insulation, ENERGY STAR® windows, weather-stripping, air conditioning and duct sealing. Visitors to the Take a Load Off, Texas events receive gifts and meet personally with experts. The Take A Load Off, Texas tour began in January and will continue through November. The tour will visit 10 cities and be part of multiple events, making stops at home improvement centers around the state.
