SEOUL, South Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Taeyang Electronics Co., LTD, a global manufacturer of outdoor lighting in South Korea, announced today that they have developed a new road lighting product called ‘ECOWOOD’, an environmental-friendly road lighting based on its design from wood grain and patterns. In addition, Taeyang announced that they will be exhibiting ECOWOOD during ‘Light Middle East 2008’ at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center in United Arab Emirates from May 25th to 27th (Booth # LM500). Taeyang’s newest invention, ECOWOOD, is manufactured through a complex process. It begins with pretreating (shot blast, galvanizing, phosphating, chromating etc) the steel or aluminum body several times in order to coat it with polyurethane. After powder-coating process with polyurethane, the road lighting is then refined in a 200ºC oven. Finally, a film is compressed to the body to form wood grain and patterns on its surface using vacuum and then the body is heated in 200ºC oven for 20 minutes. Jointly developed with an Italian lighting company, this latest manufacturing technique provides ECOWOOD with an excellent protection against the exposure under ultraviolet rays, acid rain, sulfurous acid gas, and salinity. As a result, the frame of ECOWOOD stays firm for more than 10 years and provides a great durability, saving the maintenance cost of the road lighting after it’s built. ECOWOOD also has the flexibility of applying variety of colors and patterns, including the natural wood grain and pattern for environment-friendly presentation. In addition, ECOWOOD doesn’t require any welding thanks to its prefabricated assembly, which makes it much simpler to build and repair the parts of the road lamp instantly. Jin Mo Kim, vice president of Taeyang Electronics, said, “For the safety under the sunlight, we have run an outdoors explosion test for ECOWOOD with the state government of Florida. ECOWOOD passed all the safety regulation stated by the state of Florida, proving the safety of our product.” Jin Mo Kim also added that ECOWOOD has achieved the illuminating intensity of 87 Lux on 5-meter road lighting after the series of testing in major streets in Seoul including a pedestrian bridge near Kookmin University. Taeyang Electronics is preparing for the mass production of ECOWOOD in its ‘outdoor lighting system’ factory in Gyeonggi-do in South Korea. ECOWOOD will be produced in quadrilateral (135 mm x 240 mm, 135 mm x 145 mm), oval (135 x 240 mm), and circular form (diameter 200mm, 180 mm). Along with ECOWOOD, Taeyang Electronics is also preparing to launch a new series of 6 150~200W Induction lamps for ceiling, street, parks, and apartment complex purposes. Taeyang’s new induction lamp uses the combination of its unique frame with an aluminum die-casting frame for electronic, water, and dust resistance. As a result, Taeyang’s induction lamp has better heat management and cooling for the induction bulb in order to achieve much longer lifespan than current induction bulbs for HID. Also, the lamp and ballasts are assembled independently to help achieving the longevity of induction lamp.
