Extreme Makeover in Oregon, Over 300 Volunteers in Blue T-Shirts and Hardhats Work As Home Nears Completion

July 12, 2007

CORVALLIS, Ore., July 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Hundreds of volunteers are working with community donations alone to complete a green-built dream home for the Byers family of Corvallis, Ore. by Saturday, July 14. ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition chose the close-knit Byers family because of their positive and proactive approach to solve what many would label insurmountable problems, as well as Boey's activism towards childhood cancer treatment. As of today, July 11, the walls are up, the roof on; siding and exterior painting is completed. During day three of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Oregon premiere, over 100 workers have completed the dry wall of the home and are doing finishing touches on the interior. Still, there is much to see, excavation for the sprinkler system is now taking place, exterior masonry needs to be completed, not to mention landscaping and exterior lighting. Construction will continue tomorrow, July 12, but absolutely must be completed sometime on Friday, July 13. That is when the keys are turned over to the design team who move in furniture and complete all interior details, even hanging the Byers family clothing back in their closets. The design team will work continuously so that the home can be revealed to the family on Saturday, July 14. Streets will be closed to all traffic at 11 a.m. on July 14. There will be no shuttles running. All spectators are welcome but traffic will be rerouted and individuals will be asked to walk into the home site. The reveal of the exterior of the home is expected sometime between 1 and 3 p.m. that day.
