Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Keynote at American Planning Association’s 2007 National Planning Conference CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Natural surroundings play an important role in our work, health and identity as Americans according to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Kennedy will deliver the opening keynote address at the American Planning Association’s 2007 National Planning Conference, April 15 in Philadelphia. The noted environmentalist, attorney, and professor will discuss how good environmental policy is good business policy, good economic policy, as well as good policy for posterity. During his discussion of “A Contract With Our Future,” Kennedy will illustrate why adhering to good environmental policies can save money and help ensure future generations can live in an environment that is safe, clean, and beautiful. “Protecting the environment is an important part of the planning process,” said Paul Farmer, FAICP, Executive Director and CEO of the American Planning Association. “We are thrilled to have Robert open our conference. His efforts have engaged thousands of citizens and have heightened awareness about the importance of precious waterways.” Kennedy serves as the senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper, and president of the Waterkeeper Alliance. He also is a clinical professor and supervising attorney at Pace University School of Law’s Environmental Litigation Clinic. He was named one of Time magazine’s “Heroes for the Planet” for his success in helping Riverkeeper lead the fight to restore the Hudson River. APA’s 99th National Planning Conference runs April 14-18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The conference offers nearly 300 sessions and 100 mobile workshops that focus on a variety of planning and urban design topics, including transportation, environment, disaster preparedness, affordable housing, and economic development.
