Council's Highest Insulated Glass Certification Given to Comfort-Gard(R) Plus for Sunroom Glass by Patio Enclosures, Incorporated

January 09, 2007

MACEDONIA, Ohio, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Receiving the Insulating Glass Certification Council's highest certification for its Comfort-Gard Plus(R) glass technology, Patio Enclosures, Inc. has become the only sunroom manufacturer to attain this distinction for the commercial and consumer sunroom markets. Comfort-Gard Plus glass has been subjected to the Harmonized Insulating Glass Standard (HIGS), a test standard that contains three parts: high humidity testing; accelerated weathering testing; and volatile fog testing. The certification means that the glass meets the industry's highest condensation resistance and durability standards. This is especially significant to home and commercial building owners since insulated sunroom space is comprised mostly of glass. All Patio Enclosures, Inc. insulated glass has passed the highest testing of seal life and gas retention. Seal failure is the primary reason insulated windows suffer degraded thermal performance. Comfort-Gard Plus Glass utilizes Argon, a colorless, inert gas that, when sealed between panes of glass, provides excellent thermal insulation, helping to reduce interior energy consumption. To lower energy usage further, Comfort-Gard Plus windows also employ Edgetech patented Super Spacer(R) technology, a structural, non- metallic foam spacer 950 times less conductive than aluminum spacers. In addition, Super Spacer's acrylic-based adhesive, multi-layer vapor barrier and reverse dual-seal technology using hot melt butyl deliver superior structural integrity, enabling insulating glass units to stand up to high wind loads, extreme temperature changes, and UV exposure. In addition to attaining the Insulating Glass Certification, Patio Enclosures, Inc. leads the industry by achieving the US Department of Energy "Ideal I.G.U." standards for heat and light transmittance through its use of specialty glazings and a selection of light filtering tints. Using Solarban 60VT(R), a clear Low-E coating consisting of eleven layers, including metal oxide and titanium dioxide, Comfort-Gard Plus permits 73 percent of visible light to enter a sunroom but minimizes solar heat gain and inhibits ultraviolet radiation from sunlight that can damage furniture and fabrics. Other light filtering tints including Solarbronze(R) and Azurlite(R) reduce solar heat gain or minimize sun glare. Patio Enclosures, Inc. also offers SunClean(R), the first self-cleaning glass product that uses "photocatalysis" to repel dirt and "hydrophalicity" to rinse clean without streaking or water spotting. Founded 40 years ago, Patio Enclosures, Inc. is headquartered in Macedonia, Ohio and has over 750 employees. The company is the largest manufacturer and installer of sunrooms in North America.
