DELAND, Fla. – Greenbuild attendees will be able to decide the Grand Prize winner for the final stage of the 2012 Generation Kingspan Student Architectural Design Competition. Two Generation Kingspan design entries selected from almost 30 will be displayed at Kingspan Panels US booth #3531 North Hall. Greenbuild attendees will be able to decide the Grand Prize winner in a design face-off between the winner of the popular social vote and the winner of the juried panel vote. The Generation Kingspan competition will culminate with an in-booth head to head competition to determine the Grand Prize winner on Nov. 15th. The winner will be determined from the design that draws the most votes at Kingspan’s booth during the show. Attendees will be able to view design renderings and project descriptions for each of the final entries then cast their vote via iPad. The competition will award $22,000 in prizes and internships with a professional architectural firm split between the “popular” social voting winner and the judged winner. In addition to cash prizes, the winners will be featured in a full-page feature in Architect Magazine and referenced in other Hanley Wood digital and print publications. The competitors entered on-line starting on Aug. 1, 2012, which was also the beginning of the social voting on the www.GenerationKingspan.com website. On-line voting continued until November 7. The online design community also allowed for its community members to engage in online discussions about the competition, its entries and sustainable architecture. The designs entries will also be reviewed by a panel of six professional judges, each with expertise in architecture, design, and sustainability. The judged winner will be selected based on how well they document and explain the benefits of their submission. Additionally the aesthetic aspects of their design should show originality and innovation.
