Lumiette Introduces a Better Light Bulb with Lighting Industry’s First Flat Panel Lamp

April 12, 2011

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lumiette, Inc., delivers the lighting industry’s first Flat Panel Lamp (FPL). This new FPL offers longer life, better illumination, superior dimming capability and overall lower cost of ownership. The Xcellume™ PAR 38 (Parabolic Aluminized Reflector type) FPL has the same performance (lumen output for instance) as a LED lamp but at the cost of a dimming compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) with the flood lighting and the warm color characteristic of incandescent. Power consumption is reduced by 75 percent resulting in a savings of more than $112.00 with a useful life of 25,000 hours compared to its soon to be extinct, incandescent equivalent. This new light bulb is based on the Lumiette’s patented flat panel lamp technology, is dimmable and will fit into any existing medium screw-based socket in a residential environment. There are an estimated 4.7 billion available lamp sockets in the US. Of those, 4.3 billion are in residential and commercial applications and 350 million of which are PAR-type applications. Xcellume PAR shaped lamps are considered the next wave of lamp design as they last four times longer than a typical CFL, eight times longer than a halogen lamp and 16 times longer than incandescent lighting, and will work with most existing wall dimmers. The first product in Lumiette’s roadmap, the Xcellume PAR 38 consumes only 15 watts while producing 750 lumens, for a lumens-per-watt (LPW) ratio of 50. The useful lifespan is 25,000 hours. Cost to manufacture and retail pricing for the Xcellume PAR 38 ranges anywhere form 67 – 75 percent less than PAR 38 bulbs using LED technology that are currently available from leading manufacturers.
