Background: Brian Kelly CSI, CDT®, LEED® Green Associate, is national design and specification manager for Kemper System America, Inc (KSA). A 1993 graduate of William Paterson University, he holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and has over 25 years of construction experience as contractor, owner, and materials manufacturer. Mr. Kelly joined Kemper System in February of 2004 and has consulted with the A&E community in the design and construction of thousands of important roofing and waterproofing projects, including at the One World Trade Center and Madison Square Garden. An expert in liquid resin-reinforced waterproofing membranes, Mr. Kelly assisted the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) by contributing to the section on liquid-applied roof membranes in the newly published The NRCA Roofing Manual: Membrane Roofing Systems. Mr. Kelly is a member of the KSA planning, quality management, private label, and technical manual update committees. He is a technical trainer at Kemper System University where independent agents and KSA account managers are trained in project design and specification, as well as on the comprehensive roofing and waterproofing product line. He has authored the technical articles: "Vegetative Roof Waterproofing for Long-term Performance" in Construction Specifier and "Waterproofing Helps University Reflect Past and Future" for RCI Interface. Mr. Kelly is also responsible for creating and updating the KSA continuing education program. Since 2004, Mr. Kelly has provided hundreds of hours of CES presentations on topics including roofing, waterproofing, technical inspections, and sustainability issues like green roofing, blue Roofing, and reflective roofing. Some previous programs include “Cold Fluid Applied Roofing & Waterproofing Systems” at AIA National 2013, “Blue Roofs and Storm Water Management” at AIA National 2014, and “Sustainable Roofing Strategies: fighting the Effects of Urban Heat Island” at AIA National 2015.
