In the late 1960's, the civil defense market for breathing air was evolving. American Bristol Industries responded by innovating a system concept, i.e. sole source responsible for all of the components of a breathing air system; compressor, purification, storage and delivery/cylinder charging. This extraordinary concept gained ABI industry-benchmarking and leadership through a single package known as Cylinder Charge System (CCS). All contemporary compressor companies have followed ABI's lead.
Subsequently, ABI innovated the first modular CCS which could be installed as a single integrated unit, or as separate modules. This concept has proven to be very versatile for odd-shaped rooms and allows for the compressor module to be installed remotely to lessen the noise potential for the operator
