Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Explain how glass can be used as a valuable component in a sustainable design strategy to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
- Define the criteria related to the thermal performance characteristics of glass, as well as the heat transfer principals of glass and energy.
- Explain the ways that glass products can help architects achieve LEED certification for their projects.
- Discuss the range of glazing solutions that are available that benefit both the building owner and the environment.

Title: Director of Technical Services, Pilkington North America Inc.
Background: Christopher Barry has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, 2nd Class Honors, University College, Dublin, Ireland.
Mr. Barry has worked at Pilkington since 1995 and is the Director of Technical Services.
He has taught courses on glass fabrication and design for architectural applications, Why Glass Sometimes Breaks in Vancouver 2011, Glass & Energy in Abu Dhabi and Malaysia 2011 and Gold Glass in Finland 2011.
Mr. Barry has worked in England and Canada and travelled throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. For the last 25 years he has resided in Ohio. He studies astronomy, plays tennis and races windsurfers.
