Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Define and explain the concept and importance of “infection control”.
- Discuss the challenges faced in hospital environments of hand hygiene compliance.
- State the recommendations pertaining to when and where hand hygiene should be performed.
- Identify the resources and options which assist designers and architects in making decisions that support “best practices” in hand hygiene.

Title: Commercial Marketing Manager, Hill-Rom Company Inc.
Background: Scott Hookway spent his early career in a retail environment, working his way through college while working for Sears. After graduating from college with a BS degree in Marketing from Kent State University, he moved on with his retail career as a senior buyer for the May Department Store Co. After five years with May Department Stores, Scott moved in to a manufacturing or business to business segment with Pennsylvania House Furniture, a well branded residential furniture manufacturing company located in Lewisburg PA. In the twelve years that Scott was with Pennsylvania House Furniture he had varied roles from Manager of Merchandise Control, Director of Customer Service and Quality Assurance, Director of Transportation and Director of Marketing. After leaving Pennsylvania House Furniture, Scott accepted a position with the Hill-Rom company as the leader of Hill-Rom’s capital customer service group. After five years Scott had a desire to move back into a marketing role by accepting product management positions in both strategic and commercial marketing within Hill-Rom’s Healthcare Furniture and Architectural Products portfolio’s. Scott has played significant roles in the development of many new product introductions including the design and development of the Art of Care Overbed Tables, winner of the prestigious Nightingale Award. Mr. Hookway does hold a Masters Degree in Business from Indiana Wesleyan University.
